ELLSWORTH COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING

                                                                                 

MINUTES

 

FEBRUARY 17, 2015

 

The Board of Ellsworth County Commissioners convened this 17^th day of February 2015 at the Ellsworth County Courthouse. 

                                                            Members Present:

                                                            Albert W. Oller, 1^st District Commissioner

                                                            Kermit Rush, 2^nd District Commissioner

                                                            Terry L. Kueser, 3^rd District Commissioner

                                                                       

OPENING BUSINESS:

 

Chairman Oller called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.

 

Commissioner Rush moved to approve the Agenda with an addition.  Commissioner Kueser seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Commissioner Rush moved to approve the Minutes of February 9, 2015.  Commissioner Kueser seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

No one was present for the Open Forum.

 

APPOINTMENTS:

 

A Department Head meeting was held with the following in attendance:  Peggy Svaty, Keith Haberer, Teresa Shute, Janice Sneath, Richard Nondorf, Ronda Kasiska, Tracy Ploutz, Carl Miller, Rod Rees and Jan Andrews.  Mr. Miller asked about the new Sanitary Code that was passed last week and the Commissioners addressed the major changes in the code.  Mrs. Shute and Mr. Haberer plan to look at the mobile unit being stored at the EMS building to see if can be used for recycling.  Mr. Haberer mentioned the upcoming severe weather season and asked that safety plans for the individual buildings be reviewed.  March 23^rd is the storm spotter meeting.  Mr. Nondorf reported that the bridge being replaced between Ellsworth and Kanopolis had 24 of the 65 days required for completion.  Mr. Miller reported that the fly over for the new pictometry will begin this week.  In the courthouse, department heads were reminded that streaming music over the internet uses too much broadband and that employees should use other sources for music.

 

Rick Nondorf, Road & Bridge Supervisor, presented the Federal Fund Exchange report for 2016 for signature.  The State has made a decision that any fractured/critical bridges must be inspected every two years.  Ellsworth County has seven on the list; however, one is in the process of being replaced.  That would leave six bridges to be inspected at a cost of $2,000 each.  The Rice Bridge would also have to be inspected every two years at a cost of $9,000 for a total of every two years of $21,000.  This inspection cost could come from the obligating funds with the state or from the Special Bridge Fund.  Some decisions will have to be made as to whether to close any of the bridges.

 

At 9:45 a. m. the Commissioners recessed to take a road tour with Mr. Nondorf to see some of the recent projects that have been completed.

 

The Commissioners returned to open session at 11:30 a.m.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

Commissioner Rush moved to approve the KCCA Dues in the amount of $280.80.  Commissioner Kueser seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

 

ADJOURNMENT:

 

Chairman Oller adjourned the meeting at 11:40 a.m.
