ELLSWORTH COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING

                                                                                 

MINUTES

 

JUNE 9, 2014

 

The Board of Ellsworth County Commissioners convened this 9^th day of June 2014 at the Ellsworth County Courthouse. 

                                                            Members Present:

                                                            Albert W. Oller, 1^st District Commissioner

                                                            Kermit Rush, 2^nd District Commissioner

                                                            Terry L. Kueser, 3^rd District Commissioner

                                                                       

OPENING BUSINESS:

 

Chairman Kueser called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.

 

Commissioner Rush moved to approve the Agenda with an addition.  Commissioner Oller seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Commissioner Rush moved to approve the Minutes of June 2, 2014.  Commissioner Oller seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

APPOINTMENTS:

 

Sheriff Tracy Ploutz presented a proposal from H&B Cable Services to extend the courthouse telephone system to the jail.  It was suggested that before the new 911 (Next Generation) program goes into effect that the administration phones at the jail be separated from the 911 system.  That way if the 911 system goes down, emergencies can still be handled through the administration phones.  The cost is $4,377.  Commissioner Rush moved to approve the proposal from H&B Communications to relocate the sheriff's administrative phone system to the courthouse system.  Commissioner Oller seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Julie Walters, North Central-Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging, Inc., went over the many services they offer and the dollar amount of the services. Board Members, Keith Adams and Garnell Hanson and Jennie Boots, ECCA Coordinator was also present.  This year North Central has request additional funding in the amount of $2,756 over last year for the Senior Care Act.

 

Keith Haberer, Emergency Management Director reported they are working through the regional district to update the mitigation plan.  He will be attending workshops June 11-13.  The Regional District has picked out projects for the year and one of the purchases that will be made is ProPac 25/50 Person Shelter Cart Kits.  We will get one 25 kit and one 50 kit.

 

Judge Mike Keeley, Sabrina Chism and Peggy Svaty, representing the District Court presented their budget request for 2015 of $78,000, the same as last year.  Last year they were significantly over their budget because of sexual predator cases.  Also, there were more children in need of care cases last year.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 

The Commissioners received a copy of the updated Ellsworth County Sanitary Code for Environmental Protection.  The Commissioners approved it for submission to KDHE for approval.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

Commissioner Rush moved to approve a permit for Horvath Towers III, LLC to construct a telecommunications tower exceeding 150 feet in height on the Southwest Quarter of Section 17, Township 14, and Range 10 in Ellsworth County in accordance with Resolution 2012R04.  Commissioner Oller seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.
