ELLSWORTH COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING

                                                                                 

MINUTES

 

JANUARY 21, 2014

 

The Board of Ellsworth County Commissioners convened this 21^st day of January, 2014 at the Ellsworth County Courthouse. 

 

                                                            Members Present:

                                                            Albert W. Oller, 1^st District Commissioner

                                                            Kermit Rush, 2^nd District Commissioner

                                                            Terry L. Kueser, 3^rd District Commissioner

 

                                                                                                           

OPENING BUSINESS:

 

Chairman Kueser called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.

 

Commissioner Rush moved to approve the Agenda with additions.    Commissioner Kueser seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Commissioner Rush moved to approve the Minutes of January 13, 2014.  Commissioner Oller seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

No one was present for the open Public Forum.

 

APPOINTMENTS:

 

A department head meeting was held and the following were in attendance: Carl Miller, Geneva Schneider, Keith Haberer, Ronda Kasiska, Tracy Ploutz, Janice Sneath, Peggy Svaty, Rod Rees, Rick Nondorf, Teresa Shute and Jan Andrews.  The Commissioners, due to the recent theft of a county vehicle, reminded those who drive county vehicles to make sure they are locked when not attended.  Mrs. Shute thanked the county for the cart in the recycling area. Everyone was reminded that inventories were due by February 21^st and that health screening for insurance purposes would be held April 22 at the Health Department.

 

Rick Nondorf, Road & Bridge Supervisor, updated the Commissioner on the repairs on the fuel system.  The leak detectors had to be replaced and a shut off alarm located away from the dispensers.  In doing some planning, Mr. Nondorf would like to visit with them in the summer about new doors and insulating the Carneiro shed.  They just finished a 40ft bridge but he will not be doing many bridges this year.  After the bridge inspection, there are several bridges that need some maintenance work and he will use the bridge crew for that purpose.

 

P.J. Kasper and Carry Hipp visited with the Commissioners in regards to the meetings they were having with the City of Lorraine, City of Holyrood, Valley Township, Green Garden Township and Palacky Township about forming a fire district. It is just in the talking stages right now.  Meetings will have to be held with the individual governments.  Since the Commissioners will be a participant in the formation of the district, they wanted to make sure they were kept abreast of the proceedings.  The Commissioners thought it was a good idea and would be willing to work with them. 

 

Sheriff Tracy Ploutz discussed his need for a padded cell for prisoners that are out of control.  They have a cell used for storage that could be used for that purpose if outfitted correctly.  The Commissioners asked that he contact Fred Abercrombie, Architect, to see what would need to be done.

 

COMMISSIONER RUSH HAD TO LEAVE THE MEETING AT 10:55 A.M.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

Commissioner Oller moved to approve abatements 27 & 28 for $1,225.70.  Commissioner Kueser seconded the motion.  Motion carried 2-0.

 

Commissioner Oller moved to approve cereal malt beverage licenses, one on premises and one off premises, for Smoky Hill Trading Post.  Commissioner Kueser seconded the motion.  Motion carried 2-0.

 

Commissioner Oller moved to appoint Kyle Gwinner to the Smoky Hill Economic Development Board of Directors.  Commissioner Kueser seconded the motion.  Motion carried 2-0.

 

Commissioner Kueser moved to appoint Garnell Hanson to the North Central Flint-Hills Area Council on Aging Board of Directors.  Commissioner Oller seconded the motion.  Motion carried 2-0.

 

ADJOURNMENT:

 

Chairman Kueser adjourned the meeting at 11:00 a.m.
