ELLSWORTH COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING

                                                                                 

MINUTES

 

DECEMBER 17, 2012

 

The Board of Ellsworth County Commissioners convened this 17^th day of December at the Ellsworth County Courthouse.

                                                            Albert W. Oller, 1^st District Commissioner

                                                            Kermit Rush, 2^nd District Commissioner

                                                            Terry L. Kueser, 3^rd District Commissioner

                                   

                                                                                                           

OPENING BUSINESS:

 

Chairman Oller called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.

 

Commissioner Rush moved to approve the Agenda.  Commissioner Oller seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Commissioner Oller moved to approve the Minutes of December 10, 2012.  Commissioner Kueser seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

APPOINTMENTS:

 

A Department Head meeting was held with the following in attendance:  Janice Sneath, Keith Haberer, Teresa Shute, Rick Nondorf, Ronda Kasiska, Geneva Schneider, Jan Andrews, Carl Miller, Peggy Svaty, Brent Goss, Joe Shepack and Jamie Rathbun.  The proposed Ellsworth County Alcohol Abuse, Illicit Drug and Prescription Drug Policy was discussed in length and a few changes were suggested.  The proposed changes will be made and submitted for final approval.  The Clerk was asked to contact a vendor for the testing services.  Teresa Shute, Noxious Weed-Landfill, reminded Courthouse employees not to bring household trash for recycling at the Courthouse.  Janice Sneath, Register of Deeds, thanked the Commissioners for the raises for 2013.  A new salary schedule will need to be implemented and Janice Sneath and Joe Shepack volunteered to help with the process.  Peggy Svaty reminded us that a new Magistrate Judge will be taking office in January and the Clerk reported that all newly elected officers will take their Oath of Office on January 14, 2012.  Brent Goss & Jamie Rathbun discussed the new Extension District which was approved.  Russell and Ellsworth Counties have joined together to form a new district.

 

Roderic Rees, EMS Director, reported that the ambulance they have had in the shop two times had trouble again on a transfer to Wichita and is presently sitting in McPherson where it broke down.  He is not sure he wants to put any more money into repairing the motor and has thought about retrofitting the box unto a new chassis.  He thought the cost of doing this would be about $60,000/$80,000.  There is nothing wrong with the box and doing this would be less than half the cost of a new ambulance and a new ambulance is not scheduled until at least 2014.  The Commissioners asked that he check into that option of a new chassis more thoroughly and get back to them.

 

A telephone conference was held with Fred Abercrombie on the Courthouse window replacement.  A bid letting date was set for January 14, 2012 and an appointment with him and Mr. Doubrava was scheduled for December 31, 2012.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 

The appointment of a board member for North Central-Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging was tabled due to a lack finding anyone to serve.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

Commissioner Kueser moved to approve two cereal malt beverage licenses, one for carryout and one on the premises for the Dry Dock.  Commissioner Rush seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Commissioner Rush moved to approve Abatements #17-27 & #34 for $1,113.41 and Added Taxes #16 & #29-33 for $617.30.  Commissioner Kueser seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Commissioner Kueser moved to appoint Trisha Janssen as Trivioli Township Treasurer.  Commissioner Rush seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

ADJOURNMENT:

 

Chairman Oller adjourned the meeting at 11:25 a.m.
