ELLSWORTH COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING

                                                                                 

MINUTES

 

OCTOBER 8, 2012

 

The Board of Ellsworth County Commissioners convened this 8^th day of October at the Ellsworth County Courthouse. 

 

                                                            Members Present:

                                                            Albert W. Oller, 1^st District Commissioner

                                                            Terry L. Kueser, 3^rd District Commissioner

                                   

                                                                                                           

OPENING BUSINESS:

 

Chairman Oller called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.

 

Commissioner Kueser moved to approve the Agenda with an addition.   Commissioner Oller seconded the motion.  Motion carried 2-0.

 

Commissioner Kueser moved to approve the Minutes of October 1, 2012.  Commissioner Oller seconded the motion.  Motion carried 2-0.

 

Lou Boley, Ellsworth County Silver-haired Legislator, reported on the session he attended.  There will be bills formulated by them to be introduced in the upcoming legislative session.  One will be the Older American Act in which they will continue to seek funding.  Also, of great concern is the Grandparent's Act.

 

APPOINTMENTS: 

 

Larry Sharp, KCAMP representative, gave the Commissioner a status update on their liability claims.  In 2011 Ellsworth County had a 27% loss ratio compared to the company's total of 59 counties loss ratio of 71%.  So far in 2012, we are in the same range as 2011.  Mr. Sharp discussed event coverage for those counties having facilities that they rent for special occasions.

 

Linda Denning, owner of the Ellsworth County Independent Reporter, wanted to make the Commissioners aware of and invite them to the Candidates Public Forum, October 16^th at the Ellsworth Steak House.  Although they are unopposed and the forum is geared for the three candidates for the Magistrate Judge position, she would appreciate their attendance.  The Spirit of Kansas Art Fair and Fun Day is October 13^th and she asked if Commissioner Kueser might volunteer to flip pancakes that day since that area is in his district.  The last item was to inform them of their November 22 edition that will be mailed county-wide and give them the opportunity to advertise in that edition.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 

There were no old business items.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

Commissioner Kueser moved to approve a cereal malt beverage license for D&S Convenience Store.  Commissioner Oller seconded the motion.  Motion carried 2-0.

 

ADJOURNMENT:

 

Chairman Oller adjourned the meeting at 10:50 a.m.
