ELLSWORTH COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING

                                                                                 

MINUTES

 

August 6, 2012

 

The Board of Ellsworth County Commissioners convened this 6^th day of August at the Ellsworth County Courthouse. 

 

                                                            Members Present:

                                                            Albert W. Oller, 1^st District Commissioner

                                                            Kermit Rush, 2^nd District Commissioner

                                                            Terry L. Kueser, 3^rd District Commissioner

 

                                                                                                           

OPENING BUSINESS:

 

Chairman Oller called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.

 

Commissioner Kueser moved to approve the Agenda.   Commissioner Rush seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Commissioner Rush moved to approve the Minutes of July 30, 2012.  Commissioner Kueser seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

No one was present for the Public Forum.

 

APPOINTMENTS:

 

Karton Place, Engineer with the State of Kansas, approached the Commissioner about closing a road while they worked to repair a box culvert on 9^th road.  It is part of the construct project on I-70 and they anticipate that is should only be closed for about three weeks.  There are repairs that need to be done on the inside of the box culvert.  The other options of allowing one lane only or shutting work done whenever someone needed to cross would lengthen the time for repairs.    A detour would be established on 8^th Rd.  Commissioner Rush moved to allow the state to close 9^th road for three weeks to repair the box culvert.  Commissioner Oller seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.  Mr. Place will also meet with the township.

 

Shawn Esterl, Sanitarian with the Salina-Saline County Health Department, presented a quarterly report of the work they have done in Ellsworth County.  KDHE has cut the funding for blood screenings of lead investigation and that will now have to be absorbed by the counties.  A projected cost of those screenings will need to be established and when finished given to the Commissioners so they know what impact it will have on the budget.  Also, since the LEPP funding was taken out of the State's budget, the Commissioners requested a cost analysis for the county continuing the service without the state funding.  The new Sanitary Code is still in the works.  With overall budget and personnel cuts, Mr. Esterl hoped that within a short while they would be able get back on track for services.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 

The burn ban was not lifted and is still in effect.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

Commissioner Oller moved to approve the July accounts payable for $270,763.14 and prewritten warrants in the amount of $128,814.79 for a total of $$399,577.93.  Commissioner Kueser seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

ADJOURNMENT:

 

Chairman Oller adjourned the meeting at 11:45 a.m.
