ELLSWORTH COUNTY COMMISSION MEETING

                                                                                 

MINUTES

 

April 16, 2012

 

The Board of Ellsworth County Commissioners convened this 16^th day of April 2012 at the Ellsworth County Courthouse. 

 

                                                            Members Present:

                                                            Albert W. Oller, 1^st District Commissioner

                                                            Kermit Rush, 2^nd District Commissioner

                                                            Terry L. Kueser, 3^rd District Commissioner

 

                                                                                                           

OPENING BUSINESS:

 

Chairman Oller called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.

 

Commissioner Rush moved to approve the Agenda with an addition.  Commissioner Kueser seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Commissioner Kueser moved to approve the Minutes of April 9, 2012. Commissioner Rush seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

No one was present for the public forum.

 

APPOINTMENTS:

 

Roderic Rees, EMS Director, showed the Commissioner one of the five tablets received from the Region 4 Homeland Security funding.  It will give them easy access maps within the county. Also, although they asked for a grant for 2 ventilators, they did receive one at a cost of $4,121.67.   Mr. Rees gave the Commissioner a four page list of medications that are in short supply and are almost at a crisis level.   As requested, Mr. Rees presented his increases in salary for employees and the impact on his budget.  The Commissioner will consider the requests and discuss it with him at a later date.

 

Rick Nondorf, Road & Bridge Supervisor, reported that after the tornados, he was called out to put a barricade on a road in Langley Township.   He put up the barricade; however, the township should have called as he has no jurisdiction on township roads.  Also, he thought that if the county had a county-wide disaster, he would not have enough barricades to cover all county roads he is responsible for and township roads.  Townships need to purchase some barricades for their roads.  Mr. Nondorf updated the Commissioners on the following item:  the computers in the shop have been upgraded; the old roller was traded in on a new one at a cost of $37,000; he is selling the 1996 GMC dump truck for salvage value; the crane was inspected and had deficiencies and has been repaired;   after August 2013, the crane operators will have to be recertified and every three years certification on the forklift operators have to be renewed.  Also, our insurance company required flagmen to be certified. When asked about personnel, Mr. Nondorf responded that he is short of personnel, but has a difficult time getting applications.
