ELLSWORTH COUNTY COMMISSIONER MEETING

 

MINUTES

 

AUGUST 16, 2010

 

The Board of Ellsworth County Commissioners convened this 16^th day of August 2010 at the Ellsworth County Courthouse.

                                                            Albert W. Oller, 1^st District Commissioner

                                                            Kermit Rush, 2^nd District Commissioner

                                                            Terry L. Kueser, 3^rd District Commissioner

                                                           

                                                                                                                       

OPENING BUSINESS:

 

Chairman Rush called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.

 

Commissioner Kueser moved to approve the Agenda as printed. Commissioner Oller seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Commissioner Rush moved to approve the Minutes of August 9, 2010.  Commissioner Kueser seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

No one was present for the Public Forum.

 

APPOINTMENTS:

 

Michelle Maze, EMS Director, reported that Brandon Doubrava had successfully completed his 90 day probation and she would like to move him to 12b on the salary schedule.  Commissioner Kueser moved to accept the recommendation of the EMS Director and move Brandon Doubrava to 12b on the salary schedule.  Commissioner Oller seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.  A part-time Paramedic has been hired and she will start at 7a.  Unit 110 is still at Great Bend; however, she is going to call today to see what progress has been made and how soon the unit can be returned. 

 

Rick Nondorf, Road & Bridge Supervisor, gave the Commissioner an update on the county roads and current projects that are still active or have been completed.  There is no new information available on the Salt Mine Road at this time.  It should be bid this fall.  Commissioner Kueser moved to go into executive session to discuss non-elected personnel from 9:30 a.m. until 9:40 a.m.  Commissioner Rush seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.  County Clerk, Jan Andrews, was included in the executive session.  The Commissioners returned to open session at 9:40 a.m. and no action was taken.

Sheriff Tracy Ploutz reported he had been to a laser shot demonstration at Barton County.  Great Bend would like to purchase the simulator for full force applications for use in the Great Bend service area and would like the area to help with the cost of the simulator.  The base simulator would cost approximately $18,000.  He contacted our insurance carrier, KCAMP, and their grant allowing each county $2,000 to purchase items to reduce liability risk, could be used for this purpose.  Other county officers have not asked to use the funds, so he would like to apply for the entire grant to help fund the simulator.  The Commissioners agreed that he could apply for the full grant for this purpose.  The Commissioners discussed the high pharmacy bills for inmates with the Sheriff.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 

The Commissioners received another bid for washing the Courthouse windows inside and out from Kevin Wagner for $1,825.  Commissioner Kueser moved to accept the bid from Kevin Wagner for washing the Courthouse windows in the amount of $1,825.  Commissioner Oller seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

There were no new business items.

 

ADJOURNMENT:

 

Chairman Rush adjourned the meeting at 11:20 a.m.
