ELLSWORTH COUNTY COMMISSIONER MEETING

 

MINUTES

 

JULY 12, 2010

 

The Board of Ellsworth County Commissioners convened this 12^th day of July 2010 at the Ellsworth County Courthouse. 

 

                                                            Members Present:

                                                            Albert W. Oller, 1^st District Commissioner

                                                            Kermit Rush, 2^nd District Commissioner

                                                            Terry L. Kueser, 3^rd District Commissioner

                                                           

                                                                                                                       

OPENING BUSINESS:

 

Chairman Rush called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.

 

Commissioner Rush moved to approve the Agenda as printed. Commissioner Oller seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Commissioner Oller moved to approve the Minutes of July 6, 2010.  Commissioner Kueser seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

No one was present for the Public Forum.

 

APPOINTMENTS:

 

Kenny Bernard, Emergency Management Director, reported that the federal government is building a National Emergency Communication Plan and at the present time needs the county to appoint a Point of Contact individual.  Since the Sheriff's dispatch is in charge of communications for the county, he suggested the appointment should be made by the Sheriff.  The Commissioners will discuss the issue with the Sheriff.

 

Tracy Ploutz, Sheriff, asked the Commissioners to clarify the resolution on prescribed burning in the county.  The resolution does not clearly state that the fire chiefs giving permission for the burn has to notify the Sheriff's office.  The Commissioners will consider an amendment to the resolution.  When asked about appointing a Point of Contact individual for the county, Sheriff Ploutz said he would take care of it.  Upon the request of Sheriff Ploutz, Commissioner Rush moved to go into executive session to discuss non-elected personnel from 9:30 a.m. until 9:50 a.m.  Commissioner Oller seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.  The Commissioners returned to open session at 9:50 a.m.  Sheriff Ploutz was given permission to contact Austin Peters, Inc. for job classification information for a full time position of Investigator and Road Deputy.  This position would combine a full time position and a half time position into one.

 

A budget worksession was held and the Commissioners reviewed the final budget amounts before sending the information to the auditors.

 

Commissioner Oller left the meeting at 10:50 a.m.

 

Ronda Kasiska, Health Supervisor was presented a Certification of Appreciation from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for her dedication and excellence in delivery of the Novel HINI influenza vaccine throughout the 2009 pandemic.  The Commissioners also expressed their appreciation to her and her staff for a job well done.

There were no new business items.

 

ADJOURNMENT:
