ELLSWORTH COUNTY COMMISSIONER MEETING

 

MINUTES

 

June 14, 2010

 

The Board of Ellsworth County Commissioners convened this 14^th day of June 2010 at the Ellsworth County Courthouse.

                                                            Kermit Rush, 2^nd District Commissioner

OPENING BUSINESS:

 

Chairman Rush called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.

 

Commissioner Kueser moved to approve the Agenda as printed. Commissioner Oller seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

Commissioner Kueser moved to approve the Minutes of June 7, 2010.  Commissioner Oller seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

No one was present for the Public Forum.

 

APPOINTMENTS:

 

Pat Murray, Central Kansas Mental Health Center, presented the budget request for 2011.  They are asking for $19,998, an increase of $600 or 3%.  Ellsworth County is one of the five counties that they serve.  They are getting one-half of the funding from the state this year compared to last year and have made cuts in personnel and employee benefits trying to keep their services intact.

 

Ron Etchison, Mervyn Harms, Lou & Juanita Boley, Wray Ann Miller, and Eleanor Hunter were present for the presentation of the 2011 budget for the Ellsworth County On Aging.  Virginia Boots, Coordinator of the organization, requested $24,000 which is an increase of $2,712 or 3%.  The increase is being requested to be used for their portion of the van that will need to be purchased probably in 2011.  They plan on replacing the bus with a van with a lift.

 

Brent Goss, Jamie Rathbun and Troy Soukup, Extension Service, presented their budget request for 2011 for $109,000, an increase of $4,508 or 4.3%.  Again, K-State has cut some of their funding and they are asking the county to help continue services.

Sheriff Tracy Ploutz, asked to have a bill in the amount of $2,455.31 for repairs to the jail cooling system taken from the County Building Fund.  The Commissioner will take it under consideration.  Sheriff Ploutz requested $813,720 for his 2011 budget, an increase of $61,045 or 8.2%.

 

 Lonnie Haden, Phyllis Dolezal and Pat Bender, representing the Ellsworth County Historical Society, thanked the Commissioners for their continued support of the Society and asked for the same amount for 2011 as they received this year, $30,000.  They continue to hold fund raisers and have many, many volunteers.  The Commissioners thanked the members of the society for their dedication to the history of the area.

 

Rob Fillion, Director, Smoky Hill Economic Development Director, wanted to reacquaint himself with the Board and reported there were two members to their Board of Directors.  They will continue to emphasis housing and will be working on the Neighborhood Revitalization renewal.

 

Jim Warta dropped in to show the Commissioners two pictures that were taken of the windfarm in Ellsworth County.  He also expressed his appreciation of the article on the windfarm that was in last week's paper.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

 

Commissioner Kueser moved to approve the contract with Mid-Continental Restoration Co., Inc. in the amount of $18,665 for the granite replacement on the front of the Courthouse.  Commissioner Oller seconded the motion.  Motion carried 3-0.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

 

There were no new business items.

 

ADJOURNMENT:
